While the trains are more comfortable, coaches are sometimes more direct; they connect most of the towns and villages in Slovakia and are reliable and satisfactory. The first step is to check out the timetable where you can find some useful information such as departure and arrival times, duration of the journey, prices and possible connections.

Coach connections within Slovakia are operated mainly by regional and private bus companies. Long-distance and international coach services are provided by several operators, including RegioJet, Slovak Lines, FlixBus and other regional carriers.

For international bus travel, tickets can be bought online, at ticket offices, or through travel agencies, depending on the operator. FlixBus operates numerous international connections from Slovakia to destinations across Europe. RegioJet also provides several domestic and international coach connections. Slovak Lines operates mainly regional and selected international services.

How to buy a ticket

When travelling by coach within Slovakia, tickets can usually be bought directly from the driver when boarding (cash or card payment availability depends on the carrier). It is possible to buy a ticket with a seat reservation (“miestenka”) for long-distance coaches at bus station ticket offices or online, depending on the operator and route.
